Het Rotterdamse College van Burgemeester en Wethouders heeft op dinsdag 9 december het stedenbouwkundig plan voor Waterkant vastgesteld. Ook heeft het college van B&W besloten om het ontwerp-omgevingsplan voor Waterkant ter visie te leggen.
Het Witte Huis is ook niet meer wat het geweest is. Ooit een supermacht op hoog niveau, nu een laagvlieger, links en rechts ingehaald door de nieuwe tijd. Nee, dit gaat niet over Washington – al schreven de kranten destijds wel over ‘Amerikaanse toestanden in Rotterdam’.

CTBUH 2025 International Conference heeft plaatsgevonden van 6 t/m 9 oktober in Toronto.
From the Ground Up: Tall Buildings and City-Making onderzoekt de veelzijdige benadering die nodig is om steden te laten groeien en transformeren. Daarbij wordt benadrukt dat betekenisvolle stedelijke ontwikkeling verder gaat dan enkel fysieke structuren. Het omvat niet alleen de bouw van hoge gebouwen en efficiënte transportsystemen, maar ook het koesteren van sociale en culturele netwerken die mensen, instellingen en bedrijven met elkaar verbinden, en zo de unieke identiteit en het karakter van een stad vormen.
Emiel Arends, bestuurslid van Stichting Hoogbouw, vertegenwoordigde de stichting tijdens de conferentie en gaf daar de presentatie ‘Dutch Chapter’.
Save-the-Date CTBUH 2026 Europe Conference
CTBUH 2026 Europe Conference vindt plaats op 6 en 7 mei 2026 in Madrid.
In onze complexe werkomgeving wordt de rol van de opdrachtgever enorm onderschat. Er is ook geen opleiding voor, het is ervaring gecombineerd met kennis. Er is nu een boek uit dat opdrachtgevers de weg wijst bij het ontwikkelen van de benodigde persoonlijke competenties: “Opdrachtgever ben je (niet) zomaar”.
Het is geschreven door Jochem Frehe (DFNconsultancy) en Peter van Bosse (Fakton Executives). Het boek wordt ondersteund door een competentietest gecombineerd met een eerste ontwikkelgesprek.
Het boek richt zich op de praktijk en wil opdrachtgevers inspireren en de bewustwording over de rol van opdrachtgevers vergroten. Inspiratie komt uit de 23 interviews met bekende en minder bekende opdrachtgevers. Onder andere Nanne de Ru (RED & Powerhouse Company) wordt geïnterviewd. De theorie rond de rol van opdrachtgever wordt toegelicht. Afgesloten wordt met een deel over persoonlijke ontwikkeling en persoonlijke drijfveren.
Aanbevelingen voor het boek zijn afkomstig van Karin Laglas (MAB, Ymere, Bouwkunde TU Delft) en Marleen Hermans (hoogleraar publiek opdrachtgeverschap TU Delft).

Toronto now has 9 supertall skyscrapers (300m+) in the pipeline — 3 are under construction and 6 are proposed or approved. Whether residential or office (some with a mix of other uses), these projects represent the most ambitious additions to Toronto’s skyline, with heights and designs that will redefine its silhouette in the years ahead.
For the 2025 Awards, the Council initiated its call for awards on 20 December 2024 and receives submissions on a rolling basis until the submission deadline, 14 February 2025. After submissions are closed, a first round of judging occurs, in which Award of Excellence and Lifetime Achievement winners are selected and notified. The number of awardees is dynamic and will depend on the total strength of submissions for the category. The Award of Excellence winners go on to present their projects at the CTBUH International Conference before an audience of conference delegates and live juries. Following these presentations, juries will select an overall winner for each category. There is no cost to submit a project for consideration.
All projects participating in the awards program are also featured in CTBUH’s Tall Buildings + Urban Habitat publication, an annual compendium highlighting the year’s most innovative and pioneering projects. The book is published by CTBUH and distributed internationally each year thus providing excellent promotion for the submitted projects and companies involved. The content of the book is driven by the awards submissions and launched during the Conference.
Op woensdag 4 juni tekende Erik Faber, partner bij Fakton en voorzitter van het bestuur van Stichting Hoogbouw, het officiële document waarin Stichting Hoogbouw wordt benoemd tot de Nederlandse Chapter van Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat.
CTBUH is ’s werelds toonaangevende non-profitorganisatie voor hoogbouw en verdichting.
Van dinsdag 3 tot en met donderdag 5 juni 2025 heeft CTBUH in Amsterdam en Rotterdam de CTBUH 2025 Europe Conference: “Different Densities: The quest for carbon-neutral cities in Europe” georganiseerd.

Different Densities: The quest for carbon-neutral cities in Europe
Through the centuries, European cities have adapted different models to develop density and concentrate services, wealth and culture. A new, vertical dimension is now demonstrating unprecedented possibilities and a variety of models. From the skyscraper clusters of Paris La Defense, the City London or Frankfurt, to the poly-centric clusters of Rotterdam, Madrid or Milan, to isolated towers used to infuse energy into strategic low-rise neighborhoods, tall buildings are now a known commodity on the Continent.
While not setting world records for height, these buildings are distinctive, both in their use phase and in their construction, using low-carbon materials, optimization, and modern technologies to meet a strong market demand and regulations. With the EU aspiration for carbon neutrality by 2050, countries are adopting exceptionally stringent targets to mitigate the environmental impact of buildings.
What to Expect
The conference will showcase seminal examples of sustainable innovation in buildings, components, materials and procedures, offering a venue to discuss the technical aspects of carbon reduction. It will be the venue for debates on height and density, and innovation within tradition.
Visits to iconic buildings will be organized the day before the conference in Amsterdam, with a networking reception to meet old friends and make new.
The day after the conference, attendees have the option to to carry on to Rotterdam, hear presentations about the approach of the tallest city in the region, and visit some of its most important recent buildings.
Op zaterdag 14 juni 2025 heeft de speciale editie plaats van de Open Toren Dag plaatsgevonden.
De Open Toren Dag is door de Stichting Amsterdam 750 opgenomen als een van de geplande activiteiten in het jubileumjaar 2025.
Op 14 juni werden circa 40 Amsterdamse torens gratis opengesteld voor publiek. Van historische torens en hoteltorens tot kantoortorens.
Naast het openstellen van torens werden activiteiten in en om de torens georganiseerd:
-symposia in samenwerking met Arcam over de architectuur van toekomstige torens
-in samenwerking met UvA en ROC worden maquettes gebouwd van torens van de toekomst; wat is de visie van studenten op de toekomst
-tekenwedstrijden voor kinderen van hoogbouw torens
-de Muziekschool van Amsterdam verzorgt muziek in hoogbouw
-drones zullen om torens heenvliegen
